Christmas Picks !

Merry Christmas to everyone ! May this festive season bring loads of joy, happiness and orgasmic earfood.

It's been a while since I posted, so I'm listing a couple of tracks that have been doing the rounds with all the big names in the scene, and some personal fav's too. Listen :)

Jorg Murcus - Jouissance(Eelke Kleijn Remix)[Outside The Box]
Eelke's been doing a stellar job in the progressive house scene, emotional and soulful soundscapes he adds to his sound that is nothing short of heart-warming. Do check out his album, Untold Stories, released recently on Manual Music. Really deep vibe to this track, perfect mood setter.
Release Date : 11-17-2010 | Set Fit : Warmup | Time of the Day : Morning, Early Afternoon, Late Afternoon, Late Night

If you can't place this man, checkout Demons Amongst Us and Not My Cat to jog your memory. Fans remember his as the man behind Sasha's 3 Little Piggy's. Yeah, he used to be Sasha's studio technician.
Really hard to describe his sound, essentially progressive house, enriched with techy elements and a solid groove on the whole. This track sounds like someone slowed down the engines of an F1 and added some drums and bass.
Release Date : 11-07-2010 | Set Fit : Warmup, Getting There | Time of the Day : Late Afternoon, Evening

As the effect most of Guy J's productions / remixes have, you're going to get sucked like vacuum into his deep spacy soundscapes on this one.
Release Date : 12-14-2010 | Set Fit : Warmup, Getting There | Time of the Day : Morning, Early Afternoon, Late Night

Echonomist & Cosmic Cowboys - Need To Know (Karol XVII & MB Valence Loco Mix)[Katchuli]
Now to groove things up a bit, Karol XVII & MB Valence dishing out yet another stellar deep, funky, housey, percussive take on this one. Really makes you move this !

Release Date : 10-2010 | Set Fit : Warmup | Time of the Day : Late Afternoon, Evening

Part of the Vapour album, Patrice's is truly a pioneer of tech infused house. This one sounds like a mad scientist pushed a million buttons, and garnished it with some deep, dark textures.
Release Date : 25-10-2010 | Set Fit : Getting There | Time of the Day : Early Afternoon, Late Afternoon, Evening

Butch - Soul Motion[Bouq]

German-Turkish, now that's a combination you don't find everywhere. Bülent Gürler a.k.a. Butch has been dominating the techno scene for a while now, pushing a loopy-techno sound that can get very annoying but so addictive at the same time. And this I can say from experience, from when Greg Pidcock dropped Joy at Sunburn 09', I didn't like the tune one bit, but once that groove set in, it felt just right. Joy has three versions now, that's how popular it got, not to forget his massive takes on Daso & Pawas' El Paso, Bouq Family & Friends' Jabloko and more recently, Chakra which drove Indian fans mad. The track featured, takes time to build up, he definitely wants you to appreciate the beauty of repetition, followed by this really addictive guitar hook that comes on towards the breakdown, that boosts the vibe of the track ten fold. Acquired taste, just like sushi. Part of the Eyes Wide Open album.

Another two weeks for the magic to begin !

It wasn't a long time ago when Nikhil Chinapa, of MTV India fame, decided to start a music festival in India, which would feature some of the biggest names in electronic dance music. Sunburn was born. Already in it's fourth year, the festival which is held on the sun-kissed beaches of Goa, India has featured some massive dance music heavyweights like Carl Cox, Arno Cost & Norman Doray, Axwell, Sultan, Sander Van Doorn, GMS, Richard Durand and even Armin Van Buuren. The focus however is on nurturing and promoting local talent.

I was going through some of the videos of previous years and decided to share it with everyone.
Jalebee Cartel - Sunburn 2008

Andres Aguirre - Clouds (Roland Nights Remix)[Urban Torque]

Another stellar mix by Danny Stott a.k.a Roland Nights, perfect to get you in the mood for a year end party you don't want to remember. In case you're wondering about the previous remix, check out his version of Steve Mills' Gemma Calls. Absolutely fabolous feel to that. The flute does the trick on this one, just playing at the right time during the buildup, producing a very soulful, sultry vibe followed by a trademark Roland Nights breakdown, sort of a breather giving you enough time to analyse the warmth in the track. Andres Aguirre also features an original mix of CloudsReflection and El Puerto on the Clouds EP.

Resident Advisor - Kings of 2010

RA conducted 3 polls, now that we're nearing the end of a spectacular year for dance music and it's penetration into the commercial scene, for the Top 10 Live Acts of 2010, Top DJ's of 2010 and Top 20 Record Labels of 2010. This site seems way more legit than djmag.com. Richie Hawtin a.k.a. Plastikman finished first in the live acts poll, I'm not surprised really, just watching those youtube videos of his live shows and that raw 3-5-tracks-mixed-at-a-time time techno extravaganza, gives me the goosebumps. Ricardo Villalobos is the top DJ of 2010. You think someone else deserved it ? Feel free to share your comments and feedback on what you think about the results and check the links to see who followed after these guys.

Julian Marazuela - Guanchinet(Peter Martin Dub Mix)[Lowbit]

Peter Martin, you might remember him from all those insane productions with Derek Howell, provides a dub remix on Julian Marazuela's production. Starts off slow, creating an atmosphere for what's to come, with these really sweet high pitched mids that play along during the buildup, which follows with a massive breakdown and the entire thing turns into a dancefloor monster afterwards. Really been digging this lately, fresh stuff ! Part of Guanchinet EP, which includes the original mix, a remix by Peter Martin, a remix by Bambook & Ollie V and another original by Julian, Hotel California.

Chymera - Dreamrunner(Funk D'Void Remix)[Outpost]

Lars Sandberg aka Funk D'Void needs no introduction when it comes to quality electronic music. Being supported by artists like Nick Warren, Danny Howells, Hernan Cattaneo and Nic Fanciulli to name a few, he has earned himself a big name and lots of respect for the sound he pushes and the tracks he dishes out. I heard this track on The SF Show - Episode 14 with Praveen Achary in the mix, killer tunes in there, make sure you give it a listen. Coming back to the track, heart-warming progressive goodness on this one, very deep and most definitely one of the best buildups in techno history. Part of Chymera's Dreamrunner EP which also features the original mix.

C-Rock & Bredd Johnson - Bassmatic(Kruse & Nuernberg Remix)[Stir 15]

CS1659281 02A BIG C Rock And Bredd Johnson Bassmatic [STIR1540]
Florian Kruse & Nils Nuernberg don't fail to surprise us with their subtle yet effective sounds on C-Rock & Bredd Johnson's Bassmatic. The breakdown is short and simple but what leads to it and follows, is the beauty of the track. Part of the Bassmatic EP, which includes the original mix and a remix by Marc Poppcke, which is superb too.

Release Date : 15-11-2010 | Set Fit : Getting There | Time of the Day : Evening

Maetrik - Glob Monster[Bedrock]

Eric Estornel is nothing short of phenomenal these days, landing up remixes for John Digweed & Nick Muir's Satellite, Robert Babicz's Chordy and more recently Max Cooper's Chaotisch Serie under the moniker, Maetrik, he seems to be at the peak of his career. Really dark, vivid textures to this man's sounds, nothing proves it better than the featured track that i've been digging, which appears on John's Bedrock 12 compilation, really grows on you this stuff, sort of an acquired taste one could say.
