Holi Picks !

Wishing all of you a colorful and very messy Holi !

Attention all budding producers looking to buy keyboard controllers, Resident Advisor just featured a few which can fit a restricted budget. Check here.

Mobile apps are getting more popular by the day, with BB's and iPhones enabling one to connect to the world from anywhere, anytime. Check out iCrates new app for iPhones. And finally, look past the bombarding basslines and cliche'd electro sounds people, and hear between the frequencies. It's all about subtlety and effectiveness. Some tunes I've been digging over that past few weeks follow:

1. Omar - Feeling You(Henrik Schwarz Remix)
First up, Henrik's superb remix of Feeling You. Something about the tunes he selects for remixes, soulful and quite often vocal-oriented. Originally out on Peppermint Jam, then on Parquet and finally on Ministry of Sound in February this year. Nice chill-out stuff, this.
Release Date : 20-02-2011 | Set Fit : Warmup | Time of the Day : Morning, Early Afternoon

2. Seuil & Dop - Prostitute
"She's a real good fuck !..."
French showcase this, Alexis Benard aka Seuil joins the eccentric trio d0P(from all their weird album covers) to give us a very taboo'ish deep house tune with jazzy frizzles and warm vocals. Change my name if this doesn't grow on you. The EP also features a Visionquest remix.
Release Date : 09-02-2011 | Set Fit : Warmup, Getting There | Time of the Day : Morning, Early Afternoon, Late Night

3. Kasper Bjorke  & His Friendly Ghost - Go Away Song(Holtoug Remix)
Danish Producer Holtoug provides a good take on the Kasper Bjorke's Go Away Song. Piano notes supplemented with funky guitar samples and vocal stutters. Quirky and groovy as hell this, reminds me of a 6 and a half minute long drama.
Release Date : 29-10-2010 | Set Fit : Warmup, Getting There | Time of the Day : Anytime

4.  Thomas Bjerring - Perpetuum(Spada Remix)
Now to speed things up a bit, Italian heavyweight Spada gives a stellar take on Perpetuum, really like this guy's sound, not proggy but almost there, with such a warm feel to it. Very nice melody to this one, guaranteed winner for the prog - heads. Do check out The Match as well, but I didn't like the tempo drop in it.
Release Date : 07-02-2011 | Set Fit : Getting There, Peaktime, Finish | Time of the Day : Late Afternoon, Early Evening, Late Evening, Night

5. Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile - Teleport(David Granha Remix)
No introduction needed for these guys, Hernan and Soundexile been dishing out collabs for a while now. Spaniard  David Granha, the man of the hour, is what we are interested in. I started following him from La Ciudad(the best guitar infused electronic tune ever) to Yija to a remix of  Cora Novoa's Secret Garden. Melodic, rich textures, atmospherics and legendary breakdowns. Ten years of music experience has definitely resulted in some quality music been dished out by this man. Prog-heads, do not ignore this one. King Unique provides a more edgy techy version of the same, give that a listen too.
Release Date : 12-01-2011 | Set Fit :  Getting There, Finish | Time of the Day : Late Evening, Night, Late Night

Nadia Ali & Starkillers & Alex Kenji - Pressure[Spinnin']

I didn't like Nadia Ali's performance at Sunburn because it felt like, I dunno, a pop concert. But there's no doubt she's got a really nice voice and it adds a beautiful vibe to a track. Sick percussion on this, typical Starkillers(Nick Terranova) style(remember Cantina?), supplemented with Nadia's vocals and Alex Kenji's oh so minimal feel. The thing is, this track could've exploded after the build up with the piano chords getting more prominent, but the focus stays on the drums and the energy is brought back to where it was, typically Alex's style. Bouncy as hell, this one !

I'm going to try and feature more peaktime tunes since they are ignored quite a bit on the blog, as pointed out by a friend. I can't update the jukebox playlist, Mixpod.com is getting anal about rights violation blah blah. I'm on the lookout for other players.
